The anthology, Ten (published by Bloodaxe) is the culmination of an ambitious two year project coordinated by Spread the Word and Bernardine Evaristo to support talented Black and Asian poets. The established and inspiring poet and mentor of the Ten project Michael Schmidt will set the stage for three of these exciting new talents, Rowyda Amin, Nick Makoha and Karen McCarthy Woolf.
Michael Schmidt is a poet, novelist and literary historian. He is professor of Poetry at the University of Glasgow, editor of PN Review and editorial and managing director of Carcanet Press.
Rowyda Amin was born in Canada to parents of Saudi Arabian and Irish origin. She was awarded the Wasafiri New Writing Prize for poetry.
Nick Makoha is a poet and performer. He has toured internationally with the British Council and been published in numerous journals and anthologies.
Karen McCarthy Woolf, a writer of fiction, poetry and drama, was born in London to English and Jamaican parents. One of her collections was selected as a New Statesman Book of the Year.
